A radio station in Leigh is looking for a new DJ – but is hoping to uncover a Terry Wogan rather than a Chris Moyles!
Metro Sound Radio, which has broadcast its hugely popular service to Leigh patients since 1958, says there's no shortage of ambitious young DJs coming through the studio each year.

But this time they are hoping to attract more mature candidates.
Metro Sound's 57-year-old chairman Dave Harrop says their talented younger volunteers, often don't stay with the station very long and ultimately lose touch with the hospital when they go away to university.

Dave said: "A lot of the younger people we get tend to try and be like popular DJs such as Chris Moyles.
"That's fine but we are looking to get people in who are in tune with the majority of our listeners, a lot of whom are older people.

"You could say we're looking for our own Terry Wogan!

"We're a popular and friendly station and we are particularly keen to increase our output on 'easy listening, middle-of-the-road' music.
"It is the sort of thing which we hope might appeal to someone who may be retired and feels they can spare an hour of their time on a weekly basis."

Metro Sound Radio is a registered charity and celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.

Anyone who wants to find out more information can contact Dave at the station by emailing chairman@metrosoundradio.co.uk or by writing to the station at Metro Sound Radio, Leigh Infirmary, The Avenue, Leigh, WN7 1HS.
